How it works
Functional medicine is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms.
The core philosophy
- To promote health by providing individualized attention to the patient’s story and give guidance effectively, comfortably, and safely move his/her physiology to a more healthy, balanced state.
- Toclear the muddy waters and get to the root cause of patient’s health problems. In many cases, I may start with correcting imbalances in the gut .
- The patient is always first in line for innovative, integrative treatment methods that combine the best of natural health care.
- The patient becomes an active partner with the functional medicine practitioner
A Comprehensive Approach to Treatment:
As a Functional Medicine Practitioner, I will consider multiple factors, including:
- Environmental inputs
- Mind-body connections
- Genetic makeup
Through assessment of these underlying causes and triggers of dysfunction, I am able to understand how key processes are affected.. These processes are related to functions, such as (to name a few):
- how your body rids itself of toxins
- regulation of hormones and
- neurotransmitters
- immune system function
- digestion and absorption of nutrients
Traditional medicine often treats one area of the overall problem and rarely leads to long-term relief, vibrancy and well-being. Functional Medicine identifies and treats the underlying root causes and has a much greater chance of successfully resolving a patient’s health challenge by use of tools such as antecedents, triggers and mediators.
She firmly believes that Lifestyle management will be the new medicine of the future, as far as modern day diseases are concerned. It is not the ‘what’ but finding the ‘why’ /root cause of disease, that contains the cure.
How it works
Consultations: An hour long consult with the patient, followed by a number of follow-ups of half an hour or more depending upon the patient’s current level of progress.
Customized plans with a judicious combination of supplements, botanicals, herbals as well as lifestyle modifications after careful assessment.
Meal plans; education brochures and pamphlets given.
Works closely with the patient’s family doctor, if the need arises (on doctor’s and patient’s consent.)
Scheduling and visits
Established patients have unlimited email contact with us for questions that require a simple answer, particularly relating to their consultations or treatment protocols. However, if an email question or request is deemed by us to be too complicated or involved for a response via email, we may require that you schedule a phone, or telemedicine appointment instead of responding via email.
Cancellation policy
There is a 24-hour cancellation policy for all appointments. Canceling within 24-hours will result in a 50% of the fee charge to the credit card on file.
No-shows: If you do not show up for a phone, or telemedicine appointment without notifying, either by telephone, email or by changing the appointment using the online scheduling tool on the patient portal 24 hours or more before your appointment, you will be charged 50% of the fee amount to the card on file.
Billing of lab. tests
Some medical expenses such as lab tests may be covered by a patient’s health insurance plan. (MSP). In this case they can be ordered through your family physician. Medical claims are not submitted to insurance on your behalf. You will be provided with a detailed billing summary that you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement. There may be procedures or lab tests that are not covered depending on your plan’s rules.
